linksys and westel dsl modem

I'm running redhat .
linksys wireless router
westel dsl modem from bellsouth

If I connect by redhat box straight to the westel modem I can access it remoely with out problems--although I had to enable ip pass through on the dsl modem.

If I connect my redhat box to a linksy rounter--as the router is connected to the dsl modem is there a way to access my computer from the internet. I tried and tried and bell south said it can't be done.
I tried using port forwarding and every thing.
does any body else have any ideas.
