link one serial port with another

I played around with socat and one ting I wasn't able to get working was a serial port redirection. I have a Cisco switch connected to /dev/ttyUSB1. As I understand, after serial port redirection I could use /dev/ttyUSB2 as a serial device in minicom? At the moment I get following error:

Code:
root@IBM:/root# socat /dev/ttyUSB1,raw,echo=0,crnl /dev/ttyUSB2,raw,echo=0,crnl
2011/10/06 01:50:14 socat[24771] E tcgetattr(4, 0x7fff9f941100): Inappropriate ioctl for device
root@IBM:/root#
How to understand this?
