Limiting Bandwidth On Internet When Incoming/Outgoing Call
I am doing a little research before I start creating a Linux server and gateway. I have a Internet phone through USA DataNet and if one of the client computers on the network is hogging bandwidth, then the phone call gets distorted. Wondering if there would be a way to limit the bandwidth to the clients when there is an incoming or outgoing call and how would I go about doing it? And also, does anyone know what port the phone would use, so to port farward it?

yes, this is called "traffic shaping"
see http://www.knowplace.org/pages/howto...with_linux.php you can give priority to packets for the VOIP phone.... this is quite easy with something like the "m0n0wall" distro i believe.... I've never done it myself..... check this out: http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/2004/tc.html hope this helps to get you started at least |
