LCD blink when ethernet cable plugin

Idk if I should posted here, but feel free to delete or move to the proper forums...

My dad's laptop has been acting really strange and I can't determine what is the problems with his Presario 2800 notebook. Every time I plug the ethernet cable to the notebook, it make the laptop's LCD blink. If the ethernet cable is unplug the laptop LCD monitor work properly...

fyi: I have install the correct monitor driver from Compaq and I don't think the LCD is need for replacement and then I tried running Knoppix with ethernet cable plugin to the laptop; I did not see any blink...cool!

so I was thinking probably I install the incorrect driver for the ethernet card in windows, but how could that effect the LCD?

After I check and reinstall the correct driver in windows XP . It seem to have the same problems... now I am cluelss how to get this LCD fix from blinking when the ethernet cable is plugin.

I also tried another method:

In Windows XP:
first I uninstall the ethernet card driver and when I plug my ethernet cable nothing happed (monitor did not blink) and I re install the ethernet card driver and I replugin the ethernet cable back the monitor start blinking... I have the driver from the laptop manufacture.. is it possible that the ethernet card driver wasn't compatible in the frist place.

Linux:
The monitor did not blink and I have no problem connecting to internet through ethernet.

anyone having this kinda problem?

I want to install linux on his laptop, but he is always using windows environment and doesn't know linux.

any input or idea .. please throw it to me ... thank you

Hi.

I'm probably completely off the mark here, but it could be that the video card and the ethernet card are conflicting. Have a google for 'irq conflict' for ways to get round this.
