LAN working..... how to share a folder or file?

Absolutely a beginner in networking. I am using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) in two of my machines. These are connected by LAN. I can ping from both of my machines to the other machine. Now how do I explore for files or folders of the other machine?

Also how do I share my internet connection to the other machine of my network?

thanks in advance.

I use samba to share files across a linux / windows network. You just need to install samba and then edit your smb.conf file to reflect the folders you want to share.

OK, the simplest way to do this is in my opinion not samba.

Try the following: Type (without the quotes) "fish://192.168.0.1" in your file manager (e.g. Koqueror or Krusader both know this protocol). You are prompted for a username and password and then you can browser the files, and copy them.

If it doesn't work, your file manager doesn't support the fish protocol, or there is no ssh deamon running on the other machine (so you need to start it).
