i dont know if this what you want me to do about (service samba start) ?
--------------------------
linux:~ # service samba start
bash: service: command not found
linux:~ # cd /etc/rc.d/init.d/
linux:/etc/rc.d/init.d # service samba start
bash: service: command not found
linux:/etc/rc.d/init.d #
I just saw your post, and I thought I might be able to help, I posted a post on samba earlier today, In order to get samba working you need to start the smb and nmb daemons, under SuSE 8.2 this is most easily done using webmin(I believe it's on the 5th CD if your using the professional version), after installing webmin, in your browser type https://localhost:10000/ I believe it is under the title of boot process, enable smb and nmb and restart your services., The service command that someone gave you to use is used under RedHat & Mandrake.
i found webmin on CD 4 and installed it
but when i use http://localhost:10000/ on my web browser ,
this what i get
--------------------------
An error occured while loading http://localhost:10000/:
Could not connect to host localhost (port 10000)
-------------------------
at the very top of webmin go under system, then under bootup & shutdown, you need to go down and double click on nmb and smb at the bottom of both pages it will ask if you want the services started at startup, answer yes, and then there is a dialog box asking if you would like to start the services now click yes, and your samba services should be started (providing you've set up /etc/samba/smb.conf)
smb startup boot now yes
nmb startuo boot also now yes
--------------------
this is all action for my system boot up is there any comment ?
also i want to know if im abel to acces other xp network computer now after this changes
if yes , from were i can see it and acces it ?
finaly i want to know if there is defualt smb.conf ?? cuase i dont know how to setup it .
thanks

Your Services are set up correctly, I don't know if your using Linux as your server or if it's XP, If you're using Linux as the server, take a look at my earlier post under linux and sumba (he spelled it incorrectly), If you're using windows, you need to ensure that it has installed client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP (under TCP/IP if you're using DHCP make sure it's set to obtain an IP address automatically you also need to configure Gateway and DNS Configuration - and reboot after setting them up). After that to access a share from a windows computer, you need to mount the share.
smbmount // windows computer name(or IP)/directory name /mnt/mount point -U username
to transfer files from the windows computer
smbclient \\ windows computer name(or IP)\share name -U username
this will bring you to the smb:\> command
I then use the get command (get filename) to transfer the file, which will go to your home directory
you could I believe after you mounted the share, view the network thru linNeiborhood, I really don't know cause I've never used it.
