lan://localhost question and connection sharing

I'm running Redhat 7.2 and the other machine is running Win98 (first addition). No problem with the Windows machine...now there's a suprise! The Win98 is assigned 192.168.0.1 and linux is assigned 192.168.0.2. I have created shares on both machines. I used control panel, samba, and lisa (desktop root). I ran lisa -K from the root.

When I open Konquestor and open network - local network and lan://localhost appears in the address bar. I see a folder with the title 192.168.0.1 (win98) but I don't see my local share. I can type smb://192.168.0.2 and I see the folder ADMIN$ and my shared folder.

How do I add it so it shows up under lan://localhost?

I want to change the name that appears in lan://localhost to say Win98. When I right click and chose properties I can type the new name but it causes my Win98 machine to automatically reboot on it's own.

I have a question regarding Internet connection sharing.
I have Sybergen Sygate home network installed on the Win98 machine. I have configured the linux box according to the instruction in the manual but I still can bring up web pages. I tried pinging an IP address also, didn't work. I'm missing something but I can't figure it out. I'm using a free Netzero account.

Anyone have any ideas?

I should add that I can install W2K pro or XP pro if you think that would be a better option.

Thanks in advance
Steve

I'm currently enrolled in the free linux class at www.basiclinux.net.

No takers??? Here is an update. I got rid of the Win98 and installed W2K Pro. I'm sharing a free account through Netzero. I tried to just enable internet connection sharing but this did not work, so I installed the Sybergen Sygate software. I enabled DHCP on the client computer (linux box) and configured the DNS tab to match the DNS info from the Netzero connection. I can ping the DNS server ip address I can ping web pages like www.yahoo.com but when I use Konquestor to veiw pages I get the following error:
the process for the http://www.yahoo.com protocol died unexpectedly.

Any ideas?

Maybe some windows problem?

Why dont you use your linux box as the router? You will be able to get help for that from here if you need it.

Why

The reason I'm using W2K as the gateway is because I only have Winmodems which you know doesn't work on LINUX.

Well it turns out that it was the browser. I downloaded Opera and I now have access to the Internet.

Does anyone know how to get my local://localhost screen to show the Linux box? Right now it just shows the ip address of the Windows machine.

Steve
