LAN Breakdown

I have two machines, XP and Ubuntu linux

i installed samba and sambafs through apt-get on the Ubuntu machine

both the XP and ubuntu machines have their own working wireless card that are connected to a router. They also have their own eternet cards which i have a cross-over cable plugged into them.

I have the ip setup manually as 176.76.0.2 and 176.76.0.3
with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

pings fail on both

any suggestions?

This might be stupid but what I sometimes forget are the firewalls??Once I'v got the LAN working without the firewalls,I just go back and configure the firewalls for the LAN cause then I know that the LAN is working???
