An SMTP server just collects all mail for the domain it is set up for. IMAP and POP3 are 2 different ways to get mail from the SMTP server to your local client (ie: kmail)

These are webmail. That is, they are interfaces for sending/reading mail using a browser over the internet. Kmail is a local client that runs on your computer.

I don't know about yahoo, but you can use pop3 to access your gmail. Look in the settings, then configure kmail to login to gmail using pop3...

I don't understand what you are asking for. Is gmail not enough? Running your own mailserver is not a trivial task, and it requires a great deal of setup and configuration above and beyond simply installing the software. Here is a short list of things you need to run your own server:

* static IP address
* Publically available server to install the SMTP and POP/IMAP server on
* Registered domain name (FQDN)
* MX records that point to your server for handling mail for your domain
* etc etc
