We need more info, like what happened leading up to the error, and which version of Linux you're using...
If you were attempting to rebuild your kernel, it's possible you just forgot to build the initrd file (mkinitrd) or maybe you forgot to add the probably configuration line in your boot file (lilo.conf, grub.conf)
If not, maybe your existing boot file was corrupted. Do you have other kernels to boot from your boot menu?
I think i've also see this happen for a number of other not-so-common reaons, like if you erase the empty initrd file from the root directory of your boot (root) drive.
I have did this:
# cp targetboard .config
# make xconfig
# make dep
# make clean
# make zImage
# make modules
# cp targetboard/boot/zImage ../vmlinuz
# sudo make modules_install
Hope I have given a clearer picture and sincerely hope to get some help or advises from anybody here.
