We need more info, like what happened leading up to the error, and which version of Linux you're using...

If you were attempting to rebuild your kernel, it's possible you just forgot to build the initrd file (mkinitrd) or maybe you forgot to add the probably configuration line in your boot file (lilo.conf, grub.conf)

If not, maybe your existing boot file was corrupted. Do you have other kernels to boot from your boot menu?

I think i've also see this happen for a number of other not-so-common reaons, like if you erase the empty initrd file from the root directory of your boot (root) drive.

Red face

Sorry, I am very new to linux. Hope I can answer your question and get some help from you all.

Ok, my Host PC is installed with Redhat linux 7.3. Because of this problem, I have just re-stalled the OS yesterday.

I connected my Host PC to a target board (with Hitachi chip).
When I did a Etherboot in the minicom area,
>e

...
..
The error message appears.

In my Host PC, I found this:
# ls /usr/src/
linux-2.4 linux-2.4.18 Redhat

# ls /home/targetboard/board/
linux-sh-2.4.6

In my Host PC, my boot is GRUB.conf
In my Targetboard directory (in my host PC), it is lilo.conf

Could someone please advise me what is the possible cause for this type of errors??

I have did this:
# cp targetboard .config
# make xconfig
# make dep
# make clean
# make zImage
# make modules
# cp targetboard/boot/zImage ../vmlinuz
# sudo make modules_install

Hope I have given a clearer picture and sincerely hope to get some help or advises from anybody here.

my guess is this line is bad:

# cp targetboard/boot/zImage ../vmlinuz

Try changing that (from single user mode) to

# cp targetboard/boot/bzImage ../vmlinuz
