Unhappy kernel 2.4.20 and iptables?

Hello!

What do I need to compile in to the kernel to get iptables working??? If I change kernel do I need to reinstall iptables then ???

I get this error message when I run iptables:
iptables --flush
modprobe: Can't locate module ip_tables
iptables v1.2.7a: can't initialize iptables table 'filter': iptables who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded
