System particulars:
User: newbie
K7S5A mb, AMD 1700+
Onboard LAN, sound
512MB RAM
Machine is on a Linsys switch which is then connected to a Linsys router. Other PC's on my net are Windows 2000, XP. Using Red Hat Linux 7.3 and set up for DHCP
Problem:
The LAN seems very slow. web browsing is very slow, on the bottom of the web page it says "resolving name...." for a long time (30-45 seconds), takes a minute or more to bring up a page. Also if I ping (say
www.microsoft.com) the ping is REAL SLOW).
Reslve.conf shows the proper name servers. And I put in a hostname for this PC in HOSTS. Is there any known problems with this on board LAN interface? Should I disable the LAN and try another card?
One thing I am going to do is go to static addressing. Don't know if this will help.
