Joining An Active Directory Domain
I want to setup a CentOS machine on our Active Directory network at work to run a small web server. I don't need to authenticate the user and password with Active Directory. I just need to be able to join the domain so that all the Windows clients can get to the CentOS server.

Is this done by simply adding the following lines to smb.conf and starting the samba service???


netbios name = LINUX_SERVER_NAME
realm = DOMAIN.COM
ads server =
security = ADS
encrypt passwords = yes

If you want your Samba server to be a member server of the AD Domain, it actually needs to join the domain. Take a look at this article:
