jabberd 2 configuration fail

I tried to make jabber2 work on my RedHat 9.0A machine.
Downloaded the latest - Berkeley DB , and - OpenSSL that is used.
Berkeley DB and openSSL compiled and insalled successfully.

But ./configure of jabber2 ends with an error.
Berkeley DB can not be found in several folders.
I tried the ./configure --with-berkeley-db=path
option with any paths that seemed apropriate.

Does anybody know why i cant get this work ??

Can anybody recommend to use an other jabber server that works ?

---thankful for any hint---

Same problem on Solaris 9

Anyone have a fix? using --with-berkely-db=/PATH/TO/DB doesn't help.
