Issues connecting to cisco router with any program
Hi all,
Trying to figure out a problem here: I just picked up a couple of cheap cisco routers for training/lab, and I can't seem to connect properly. Using minicom, cutecom, screen, gtkterm or cat, I CAN successfully read from /dev/ttyS0 and see my device boot up. However, when it gets to a yes/no question, and I type yes <enter>, absolutely nothing happens.
Any ideas, places to start looking, etc? For troubleshooting purposes, the device is world-writeable.
Thanks!
C

Are you running it as a user, or as root? That can narrow down what the issue might be, too.
Also, do you have a Windows box you can make sure you can connect to the device with? It's possible that whoever you bought the routers from didn't clear them out properly and has the baud rate of the serial port set at something other than the default of 9600bps.

No windows boxes here, though I could try cycling through the different baud speeds and seeing what might work.
Definitely running as root.
OH, also, I think the boxes were wiped...they boot to "would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]"

Since you see readable text it appears that you have configured the serial port correctly. Might want to configure hardware control to none and xon/xoff to off too. Have you verified your serial cable is good? Jumper pins 2 and 3 to create a loopback and you should see everything you type.
Have you tried just a y or n and then pressing the enter key?

Also try a capital "Y".

Well, I have tried cycling, and tried capital letters etc., all to no avail.
I don't believe I have anything here to jumper the cable with, but it's a tested good cable, so. This weekend I will try to run one of the routers to a friends house who has a windows machine somewhere.
