Issue with Mac/Debian + samba

I have a sort of weird problem, at least in my book;
I have always been able to access my drives in linux from my main workstation - a mac, using samba shares. I moved into a new place recently, and for some reason, the connection to the linux server is redicilously slow. An SSH connection takes about a minute to establish, and the samba shares just wont work.
Even loggin in to webmin takes about a minute. It is like someone poured syryp into my frickin server.

The only difference in infrastucture, is the new 24 port D-Link DES-1024D, and a D-Link Broadband VPN Router. I've tried disconnecting the broadband router from the network completely, yet it wont work as it should.

The Mac was plugged in to the router.
The router then uplinked to the big switch.
The linux server plugged in to the big switch.

That's how it was. Both computers are now plugged in to the big switch, yet it still wont work.
Note that the connection to my two windows computers are flawless and no errors occurs, and the speed is up to par.

Does anyone know what the issue might be? There should, in my book and expertise, be no error... So I'm dumbfounded really.

Question: are you using IP addresses or host names to connect? If you are using host names, can you try using IP addresses and see if it helps?
