Smile ISP Servers

Well I have run Windows NT and Windows 2000 and I want to replace them with linux How many Linux servers do I need???? I figure 2 servers that do DNS/DHCP or do they have to be seprate boxes for DHCP and DNS?? Then 2 Servers that handle POP/SMTP, 2 Firewall servers (one for each router), 2 Proxy Servers, 2 Radius Servers, 1 SNMP/TFTP Server, 2 Web (Apache/TUX)/FTP Servers.. Now I have them on seprate servers but they are getting old I plan to upgrade to AMD 64 CPU's with 2 GB ram each 2 WD360GD boot drives and 2 WD760GD Data drives ATI 9600pro Video. That is one reason for the move to Linux. The Second Is stability. How many servers can I load on one box?? or what is the best way to conigure it??? I curently Run Samba File/Print servers But I am Leaving Windows forever if I can get this done. Is there a site that will tell me the best lay outs for linux servers?? Please Help I curently Run SUSE 9, Red Hat 9 and Fedora Core 1. So let me know what the best options are I am open to any help..

Hello,

Quote:

Why a so powerfull video card for a server??? you needn't graphical interface for servers

With your config many... But I can't tell you exactly because all depends on your network traffic, and your server config (if you run a server without XFree, you will have more free RAM than if you were ran it)

What's your linux skills? Cause if you are advanced user, you may configure it in text mode with vi to edit files...
Here is the reference
site : you'll find a lot of howto about configuring servers...
Hope this help you

Skills and Users

Well my skill are good but not great I am learning linux IP servers and mail servers as I go. that why I figure the GUI will help my learning curve, and the other person that will work on the servers has only ever known windows so the gui helps there too. we are installing broadband and WI-Fi and I figure around 1000 and 2000 (64k to 1500k+ speeds) broadband users (with the ability to grow fast) I also need to control these speeds if you have any ideas. and about 1000 to 1500 Dial in users. I need to have a configuration that can handle this. The vidio card is a non issue as far as power I just want a card that I wont have to worry about haveing driver support for in a couple years. What should I use to athenticate the dial-in users?? I am useing Canopy for broadband (http://canopywireless.com/)

Hi,

So to manage your bandwidth, you need to set up a QoS policy. As you have high rates, HTB algorithm should meet your requirements. To learn more about that:
http://lartc.org/
http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/htbinit/
For dial-in users, as it seems that you use a point to point protocol, EAP should be the solution for authentication:
