connect the crossover cable
setup network in linux
see if you can ping the winxp(ip) from linux
you know using ping a.b.c.d

once u get that working
put a proxy server on winxp
(for example http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...work/proxy.htm)
set that up

next in linux
either in browser(firefox) setup the proxy to be winxp)

if you get stuck at some point
google for how to achieve that step

Those are not steps, they're leaps

Have a look at the Newbie's Guide to Small Home LAN and the related discussion.

You need to configure XP for internet connection sharing (ICS). There are lots of guides on the web and of course windows help.

ICS automatically assigns the sharing interface an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and it can not be changed. ICS also provides IP addresses with dhcp. Configure the ethernet connection on SuSE to use DHCP and your all set.
