I'm planning on setting up a home network.

The main comm board for the house will hold the modem/router which should provide good WiFi coverage for the entire ground floor.
There will be another comm board directly above the main comm board on the top floor, which will have a wireless access point connected to an Ethernet port. Lastly, there will be a desktop on the other side of the top floor connected to an Ethernet port, and another wireless access point nearby.

Is there a list of Linux compatible hardware? Or will anything work? I don't need to install a wireless card.

Anything will work with respect to the operating system... THe router/AP should should match the capabilities of your hardware in terms of wireless specifications i.e. 802.11ac etc. and expected bandwidth i.e. how many movies can you stream at once.
