Is squid right for this?

I'm looking to prevent users from access the web except for a FEW websites (less then 5) Would squid be right for this?

I will probly run it on Slackware 9.1

Thanks!

Squid with Squidguard properly configured could most certainly do this for you, and is prpbably the best route IMO.

Oh, and cross-posting is forbidden here. A mod will likely close one of the threads soon. Welcome to LQ :-)

hmm, setting up a proxy seems a little heavy for something this simple.
is this just on a local machine or a network?
if it's local you can just edit the hosts file (/etc/hosts) to redirect these domains to a page you make.
as for a network, squid is probably best

sorry for the crosspost. Wasn't sure what this would fall under. Yes its on a network.. a bank actually..and I was asked to do research into whats best for the situation.

If you want to specifically allow a few websites then you can allow access to them in a router acl and deny all others. This will be the simplest solution, albeit it does not have near the options and configureability of squid.

yes, squid is best, i assume you already have a linux box doing NAT so it should be easy.
and i assume you've already tried squid http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=126750
