is it possible to access windows xp home shared folders?
 

At work we have what the boss calls a "network" of 30 pcs plus a "server"
it all runs on wireless and they are all running windows xp home.

They all have shared folders and such.

Is it possible to transfer data from and to these shares from my fedora laptop?

The file systems are ntfs and ext2 respetively.

well infact these filesystems are NOT ntfs as far as you care... these are presumably being shared via standard windows networking protocols, which is SMB or CIFS. To interact with these, you want to look into Samba to achieve what you want.

exactly, you wouldn't have any kind of problem sharing files with your Fedora, as Chris says you have to look into samba, is the same protocole used by windows to share files over a network.

I suggest you to try to find an application called SMB4 (I beleive exists for Fedora) which helps you to mount and unmount easily the share folders and creates a folder in /home/user a folder called smb4 where you will find the folders of the network you have mounted.

Actually I beleive he is referring to smb4k. Works very well.

Thanks a lot guys for your help. It will make these dvd isos a lot easier to get off of my computer and onto the "server" where I can burn them ;)
