IPV6 ...for my ppp0

hii ..
my kernel is 2.6.9-1.667 ... how can i have a IPV6 address for my ppp0 connection ... i dont think my ISP support it ... i read abt IPv6 ... and 2.6 kernel has support for IPV6 .. but then how do i enable it ... when i see my connection status via network tools .. my ppp0 has only IPv4 .. they say that i can have IPv6 address by IPv4 tunneling ... and yehh applications also need to be patched right ? anyone got any idea ... i wannna do this for fun or maybe wanna experiment
thnks in advance

Then I suggest you do some research into IPv6 before jumping in. Your ISP is currently running on IPv4. There is no point in having an IPv6 address on your PPP interface as the RAS kit you are calling into is all IPv4. For you to get an IPv6 internet address you would need to tunnel to the 6bone the IPv6 backbone which is currently under development. But then the IPv6 address would be on your tunnel interface. I doubt they would do this for you 'just for fun'.

Why don't you experiment with IPv6 on your local network, maybe a couple of Linux boxes configured up. If you have access to Cisco routers they are a good place to start.

wot does tunneling mean ..
i read abt IPv6 addressing .. and it said IPv4 address can be converted to IPv6 ... by converting it into hexadecimal n prepend it with 6 group of 0's ..
wot wud tunneling meean ? wot does it do .. and yehh 6bone .. i kept reading it .. but dunno wot its trying to achieve ... is it a part fo IETF venture ?
or its like one of those proxy surfing websites .. who let u surf with a diff ip ? well i wud try n read more ...
if u cud explain me wots tunneling..it wud be gr8 .. and yehh thts wot i initiually thot ... trying some implementation on LAN ..
any guides u have to implement on LAN .. ? i tried Linux documentaion project ...on IPv6 how to !! it dont wanna get download
well thanks in advance

I suggest you google for ipv6 tutorial and get some theory first. You'll find things much easier if you are armed with some basic concepts first.

If you don't know what tunneling is I'm not sure you should be messing around with IPv6, its like trying to run before you can walk.

Basically you would take your IPv6 packet put it inside an IPv4 packet. The IPv4 network routes the packet to an IPv6 edge router where the the IPv6 packet is de-encapsulated from the IPv4 packet and then proceeds to be routed as IPv6.

This allows IPv6 to the 6bone even though the ISP you are physically connected to only actually operates IPv4 on their edge routers.

Remember Google is your friend! Search for IPv6 tunneling and start reading.

PS. the sms shorthand is giving me a headache. You will find more people are willing to help you here if you type in normal english.
