ipsec racoon etc
Hello, I am trying to connect via a VPN tunnel to a data provider. Cisco router)
I am using debian, on a virtual cloud host.

Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Sun May 6 04:00:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Where do I start?
I am trying to use ipsec and racoon.

I have apt-got the ipsec tools, I assume a modern Deebian kernel is OK or do I need to rebuild it?

I only have one external interface, so i am using aliases (like eth0:1) will this work?

I have read loads of useless HOWTO's giving configurations but no clues as to how to watch the log file.

How do I start debugging - any clues?

A different program called "vpnc" is designed specifically to communicate with Cisco IOS implementations of IPsec.

I don't think it's what I am looking for.
Cheers, though I have got down the road a fair bit using Ipsec tools.

Cisco does IPsec in a different way. Changes to the Cisco IOS config might make it act normal. That "vpnc" program was made for cases where you don't have that option with the Cisco IOS config.

I managed to do it using IPSec tools and racoon.

If anyone has troubles give me a call.
