Ipcop
hello,
i'm trying to setup ipcop as a firewall. I have a modem(red)---ipcop box---- linksys router(green network) Now my problem is after it goes through the install and it goes straight to configuring the green interface. i enter the ip and then it start to install grub. isn't it to ask me what zone i want to have? Also i get no internet connection at all when i run the connection through ipcop. The local network light on modem goes dead and same thing on the linksys router suggestion or ideas? |
After you have assigned the local lan card, you go back into setup and select then configure the card you wish to use for the internet connection.

ok im an idiot didnt read what it was telling me. Ok so i pick the green and red one red being internet. I go to configure the cards and the only card it pickup is the green one. (Which is connected to the modem) wtf?
also the lights on the back are not lighting up. do you think my nic card is bad or something? btw when i installed ip cop i gave my router for my green zone a statip address then hooked it back up to my network and when i tried connecting to the internet it conflicted with my modem. basicly they were trying to assign my network computers an ip and clashed. Any way to fix this cause i have a feeling it going to happen when i do get my ipcop box working. |
why is the green interface connected to a modem? what does this modem do? you also have a seperate rouer? what's that doing? logically red is for the most dangerous interface, i.e. the internet, the untrusted side. green is for the safest part, i.e. you.

my setup goes like this modem(Internet/red) ---------- ipcop--------(router/green) for desktop and wireless signal |
when you go in to setup choose the network card option and then you can scan for your cards
then assign the ip's/network to the cards. This is very easy to set up if you read the options during setup, instead of just clicking without reading |
hmm, ok, well note that in this scenario your router should NOT be routing. you should really only be using it as a switch and AP. plug the green interface into one of the switch ports on it, assumign there are some, not the wan ethernet port.
