i'm really new to networking and was wondering how i could go about installing the ipchains firewall. i just downloaded the source, don't know how to configure it to run on the box though. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

depending on your distro, you might also try the pre-compiled packaged.

To install, read the INSTALL file. It should be somthing similar to the procedure described at

Once installed, you can start to set your rules. I suggest it gives a good basis.
