IP Tables setup help

Hi guys

Ok, i,ve been here and asked a smilar question before, but this time i,m approaching it another way.

I want to setup a firewall using ipchains with a 2.4 kernel on Mandrake.

If I install IP Tables, what other programs must be installed and running? as I have no idea.

I,ll deal with the scripts later, I just need to know I have everything before I start. I could use the Control Panel in Mandrake but I wanna do it myself as this is the best way to learn the thing.

if you can do iptables -L with no error it will most likely work.

you should turn off ipchains if you have them on.

depending on the rules you are planing to use there are modules but if net filter is built into the kernel it should be ok.

I completely uninstalled ipchains and iptables, then re-installed the new version of iptables 1.2.4 (I run RedHat so it was a simple .rpm).
