IP Masquerade problems

Hi~

I am running Redhat 8.0 on an i386 machine. I am attempting to configure

It is the basic ipmasquerade script with a simple firewall ruleset from http://ipmasq.cjb.net .

It executes without errors, and I can ping the server from hosts, but not the web. When I do try and ping the net, tcpdump shows no activity.

iptables -nL says that my default polcy for FORWAD is DROP (i don't really know what this means).

i turned masquerade on in /etc/sysctl.conf

i can ping the net from our server (the 1 with masq on it)

is there anything obvious that i need to do that i haven't done?

i set the DNS to that of my ISP for the hosts. is that correct?

thanks in advance for you help,
andrew

hi, I had the same problem earlier today and some kind sole pointed me to a program called firestarter which handles masquerading and the firewall. After running this, my home network is working fine. It doesnt teach you anything but is good for getting everything up and running

cheers andy

you see, earlier when i was configuring dhcp my X server stopped working. this really sucks. i don't suppose you would know what to do, or another method than firestarter?
