Ip, Dns & Dchp ???

Hi,
I tend to work with simple windows lans. At the most I just set the IP addresses of the NIC's. Now installing Linux, it wants DNS, DCHP, WNS and gate way addresses? What are these or where can I read up on them?

Is there a simple system that you guys follow?

Thanks,
Chris

these things are all present on any modern network. you surely aren't being asked for WINS details though... that a M$ thing.... you will not be asked for a dhcp address... that is effectively an oxymoron.... dhcp means you don't ned to set anything. there's really nothign "linuxy" about this.
