Are you running through a cable modem then, and are you able to ping this device rather than Internet traffic? When you replaced the card, was it with a card using the same module (i.e. still had the same chipset) or was it a different card completely, and if so, what cards have you tried? Does anything show up within the logs as to why it's dropping the connection?

Most of your system logs will go under /var/log . Within here, two good ones to check first of all are 'messages' and 'dmesg'. /var/log/messages should include timestamps by default, allowing you to quickly scan through until around the time your connection drops and see if anything is logged. It might be device encounters an error, suspect network activity is sent, the module unloads itself for some reason, etc.
