Question internet sharing on linux from one ip


i need to be able to say limit the amt. of bandwidth each client receives say i need one computer to receive half of the total bandwidth and the other 8 receive the other half shared equally.

which linux software or feature of any linux distribution is capable of carring out this task?

squid for http access.

see squid.org

you could block ftp and make them use the browser to do passive ftp thru the proxy but IE has a problem doing it, or limit the interface with cbq.

there will still be a problem with things like napster and streaming audio.
you will have to block the ports they use so they will have to proxy thru http as well.

internet sharing on linux from one ip

i would like the clients on the to have access to kazaa, audiogalaxy and other peer to peer softwares....i just would like to be able to specify the max download speed for say ip 165.xxx to 20k/sec in total from the server without needing a router....
i am goign to check the above link out...

i checked the link ....i was hoping that the procedure was less complicated .... this method may result in too many problems...
i was thinking more of the use of a gui software....

thanx for the help?
