Internet problems in SUSE 10.0

Ok... So I'm EXTREMELY new to linux. I chose SUSE 10.0 because I liked the "look and feel" of it on a friends pc. Anyways, I got everything set up fine. I'm running on a GATEWAY TABOR II motherboard with a 750MHz Pentium III processor and 512MB of RAM. This is a dual boot with Windows Server 2003. I can access the internet fine using the Konqueror Web Browser, but nothing else. Firefox doesn't work, YaST doesn't work, nothing. The only thing I get with those is either a "Connection Refused" message or "Could not connect to host" or the connection just times out. I've looked on the forums, but nothing seems to match the problem I'm having. I know I can't be the only one out there having this issue. Please help.

Did you set up your network via YaST? You can set it up using the Network Devices category.

Do you use an http proxy? If so, Konqueror may be set up to use it, but Firefox may not be.

So, I forgot that I posted this problem. I did set up the device with YaST, but set it up to use DHCP. Therein lies the problem with my setup. I figured out that for some reason, when using DHCP with my router, the primary and secondary DNS addresses were being set as the router's IP, so I changed to a static IP and set my DNS addresses to what was given to the router by the ISP. Everything works perfectly now. I don't understand why the router is assiging an IP address with the incorrect DNS addresses or why Konqueror worked with that set up and Firefox didn't, but it works now and, right now, that's all that matters. When I learn a little more about Linux, I will look into why this happened. I do appreciate the attempted help and apologise that I forgot about this post. Guess I should check my email more often. :P

Slow Browsing

You were suffering from the well known slow browsing
problem where only the Konqueror browser is fast enough to
work. Sometimes this can be cured by entering the DNS
name server IP addresses into resolv.conf. Sometimes it
can be cured by turning off IPv6. Another way to solve the
problem is to update the software in your wireless router.
Different solutions work for different people.
For me entering the DNS nameservers didn't work. Turning
off IPv6 support did work but I also found that after I
upgraded the software in my Dlink router I could leave
IPv6 on, not enter my DNS nameservers and everything
worked fine.
