internet problem: Trouble configuring dhcp

I'm new to linux (i use kubuntu) and so, am not sure how you go about searching for my own files yet. (I use the search function,, and usr home at the moment) So am having trouble configuring my cable internet (bigpond australia). I used the package manager to install pump and dhcp client. But i don't know if there's anything further i have to do to install them. And don't know how to run them to begin with. my kppp (default dhcp client with kububtu, is unlike the one displayed in it's own help files. So i'm really stuck. So if someone could explain to me the installation process and how to us them, as if they were explaining to a child, that would be good. (i'm not sure if they a grapical interface).
