Unhappy Internet pre-GUI on Gentoo

I want to be able to emerge some drivers and programs...but I cannot do that until my internet connection is up ...any suggestions to how to do this?

Info.
HP PAVILION LAPTOP 1108EA
ADSL Router (United Kingdom)
SAFECOM 2 PORT COMBO ADSL ROUTER
CELERON M 1.3
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 (UP TO 64MB)

AND BEFORE SOMEONE SAYS GO AWAY AND READ SOME MANUALS I HAVE BEEN THERE! AND I HAV NOT FOUND ANYTING THAT HAS DRAMATICALLY HELPED

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT DRIVERS I SHOULD BE USING FOR THE XORG.CONF FILES BECAUSE AT THE MOMENT I AM STUCK IN A TEXT BASED OS WHICH IS NOT VERY FUN...

BTW...MY DISTRO IS GENTOO 2.6-R3...HOPEFULLY THAT HELPS

Are you connected to that router via ethernet or USB?

If it's ethernet, it should be fairly easy - just get networking set up & set the router as your gateway. Guides like the LFS one explain this in depth.

If it's USB, you're on your own - USB networking is a PITA on Linux
