Hi
Please help a newbie (2 days).
I have installed Mdk 9.1
old pc talking to a netgear DG834 Firewall asdl router.
I can ping XP pc on the lan and see its files.
can also ping the router ok
but can not surf, XP pc can surf.
Have tried network configuration drakconnect
it reports network is up but can not connect to internet
Local Host:
Inter Access Type: Lan
Gateway: 10.60.26.251 (this is the routers address)
Status: not connected (tried to connect but says verify Configuration in Mandrake Control Center)
What it shows as Lan Configuation:
Interface: Eth0
Ip Address: 10.60.26.3
Protocol: DHCP
Driver: 8139too
State: up
Lan Config:
Adaptor:eth0
Ip Address: blank
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Boot Protocal: DHCP
Started on boot: yes
DCHP Client: blank
Did you have your dns point to the right dns address? and Did you set the correct gateway?
try this:
netstat -rn (check the value UG in the Flags field - that is your default gw)
you should only have one line with UG and if that line is other than
0.0.0.0 10.60.26.251 .... then you have a problem.
assumming the output is:
0.0.0.0 w.x.y.z do this:
route del default gw w.x.y.z
then issue this command:
route add default gw 10.60.26.251
Hum. I don't know for sure how it should be, but here is how I got that :
I restarted an install, pressed whichever <F> it is you have to press to have the possibility to pass an option, and typed at the boot prompt : "linux noapic". Then In the drakboot thing I had the option "noapic". But I honestly don't know if it was there before I did that.
Probably not DNS, since you are on DHCP and the DNS can be found in your router (which is where your XP box finds them). Try to ping directly the IP address of, say, google (66.102.11.104). If you don't get through, your problem is deeper than DNS. If you do get through, then it's certainly DNS.
