internet / network setup

i'm using Mandrake 9.1 and yes am a n00b. I went to the Mandrake Control Center and went to the internet setup icon in the networking & internet section. now i've seen this screen in redhat too on the install when it configures the eth devices.

Host name:
Zeroconf Host name:
DNS server:
Gateway (e.g. 192.168.0.1):
Gateway device:

I never know what to put in there

this is a box that will plug into a DSL modem and eventually share it if i can ever get that far to other comptuers on my network. I dont have any real web domain thing such as mybox.mylab.myco.com as in the example I dont think.

eth0 is what connects to the modem, eth1 connects to the lan so i think gateway devices is eth0 but i dunno, and i dunno what to do for the rest

also is there a way to login as root in mandrake 9.1?? such a dumb login screen, cant enter in a username, have to pick from a list and enter a password :/

thx for help=)

Since you are using DSL, you will need PPP.
In the internet configuration tool (DrakConnect), when you are asked which type of connection to configure, select ADSL connection
http://doc.mandrakelinux.com/Mandrak...onnection.html

I believe your interface to the internet will be ppp0

As for login in as root, you can go into the Control Center and look in Login Manager, there is an option to unhide users.
Or
You can boot the system in runlevel 3, login as root and then start X.
