Have you configured a DNS address in /etc/resolv.conf on the network boxes? If you are using a dsl connection then your modem/router probably has dns caching and you can use the router address to resolve the dns.

Check your router. It should pickup the isp DNS address and have a DNS proxy. I only discovered recently that these routers do DNS caching and can be used. Enter the router ip address in /etc/resolv.conf in the form nameserver <ip_address> on each box. If that is not working check the DNS address the router is picking up and use that address. I have noted that since I specified the router address on my boxes that name resolution has been much quicker.

i have hardware router. how to get DNS proxy server IP? Router is connected to proxy server that i configured.

previously when i was runnig windows proxyserver with contents of resolve.conf
nameserver PROXY_SERVER_IP
search localdomain

I am able to ping any website by its name but when i boot proxy server to linux and start there squid i am unable to use ping with name of website instaed if i know ip of any site i am ping directly to that website.

Investigate installing dnsmasq on the proxy server then use the proxy server as the dns cache.
