Unhappy internet from redhat9 to xp

Hello everyone,
I need some help please. I知 new to Redhat9 and I have just installed it. I have XP on one machine and Redhat9 on another. Both are connected via network using cross over cable. XP is connected to the Internet via cable modem. I would like to get some help in connecting Redhat9 to the Internet trough XP (home edition). And how to share the printer? (The printer is connected to XP).
Thank very much for your help.

PS: I知 very exited about this operating system. I always wanted to try it, and so fare, I知 really impressed. Thanks to the programmers out there, and also for making affordable.

You'd be looking at running a Samba server on your Linux box.

Thank you for replying. What is a samba server? Is it an add-on to Redhat9. Could you please give me a little more infos or give me the suggestion in having this done. My XP machine is always on that is why I would like my Linux machine to get the Internet from it. Thank you in advance for your answer and time.

If you selected to install Everything on your Red Hat 9 install, you'll have it on your Linux box.
If you selected Windows Linux interoperability in the servers section of your RH9 install, samba should be there.

If it's not installed, you'll probably have to get your hands dirty by installing samba and all related packages from the RH9 CD using the rpm command (which can be accessed from Linux's terminal (or command prompt). If you have no idea about even THIS, then you will have a certain amount of required reading to do before you even attempt to get samba started. If you have no idea how to use the command prompt in Linux, then now's a good time to learn. It's arcane but useful. Red Hat's website explains everything pretty well for those who understand English better than technobabble, and should be your first stop.
It will take a little while to get comfortable with the command line and all the commands, so be patient.

However, if I'm not wrong, RH9 should have some application on the Red Hat 9 desktop which lets you toy with Samba. I've only configured Samba from the command prompt, and I've never really delved into the Red Hat graphical desktop very much. Take a look there first.

Samba creates a server and interoperbility between Microsoft and Linux PCs. The server and shared folder actually resides on the Linux side, but you will be able to fool Microsoft into thinking that Linux is on the MS network. On the linux side you have to configure shared folders and printers. Then you can swap files and things between the two PCs with relative ease.

In short, have a look at the Red Hat website, then come back and post questions.
