Internet Explorer: smb://192.168.1.4 ERROR, Page can't be viewed!

SUSE 9.3 Pro
I'm trying to network between a Windows XP box and a Linux SUSE box. So I set up a Samba server. If I type "smb://192.168.1.4" in a Firefox window on my Linux machine it works and I see my shares. But if I do the same thing in an Internet Explorer window on my WinXP machine, it claims that "The page can't be viewed", which it usually does when there's a page it can't find. The firewalls on both machines are down. Norton Internet Security and the SUSE firewall.

I never tried using smb:// in a Windows web browser, but I suspect this is not supported.

If you want to use Samba shares under Windows, the usual way is using Windows Explorer. You should find your Samba machine somewhere below "Network neighbourhood".
