Internet connection setup with Bell Sympatico

I am a newbie to Linux and have recently installed Debian on an Old Laptop. However, I can not setup my internet connection to work.
My network is composed of a DSL modem (ISP modem) which is connected to a commercial router. Two laptops are connected to the router, one using Windows (no problem to connect to Internet) and the other one is where I installed my Linux Debian.
Could anyone suggest a step-by-step procedure to setup my internet?
Also, I am having the following message when running the start-pppoe file:
Interface eth0 still in BROADCAST mode.
What could I do to come back to "normal" mode.

Thanks.

The command you are looking for is pppoeconf. Do your setup this way, then run pppoe-start. That should do the trick.
