I think somewhere along the line, we may have missed something
Is you modem using a proxy ?
at this stage all I can suggest is that you contact a Linux User Group near your and ask for help, if you go over to the LUG section on these forums you'll find a big list of Indian LUGs

Hi
I m facing the same problem with BSNL Broadband. I cannot connect to internet using Mandrake .. although it is working fine with winXP. I ve tried making new LAN connections and new ADSL connections.. but none of them seem to work for me
I ve tried adsl-setup and adsl-start but the connection times out.
I ve tried logging to the router through web interface and made a connection there using the settings descibed in manual, but still no use.
Do i need to install some software for pppoe connection... ??
Plz help me..
Thanks in Advance
Anjali

Stupid problems are usually caused by stupid people, all pun intended.
Perhaps you should actually try some of the suggestions provided to you in this thread instead of crying about how it's not working for you. If you continue to post in this behaviour, your only going to get banned from using this site.
Perhaps you should read "How to ask smart Questions by Eric S Raymond?" It's linked quite a few times from this site and a quick search on google should find the site for you.

Can you ping an externel IP address, or reach a web site using the IP address of that web site ( i.e. Google: http://216.239.57.99/ ). If you can ping an external IP, see if you can get the DNS information off your DSL router, and add that IP to your /etc/resolv.conf

SOMEONE SUGGESTED THIS:
===============================
I did some digging and found this on the reported Madriva problems on their official web-site:
Network unreachable because of wrong firewall settings
* A firewall is automatically installed using eth0 instead of your interface to internet. To get back your internet access in the meantine, you can
o either use MCC / Security / Firewall then OK and change the network interface to ppp+
o or you can disable temporarily the firewall with this command after boot : "service shorewall stop"
o or for advanced users edit /etc/shorewall/interfaces and replace the line "net eth0 detect" with "net ppp+ detect" then service shorewall restart.
* this is necessary for all users connecting with a modem (analogic or DSL with pppoa or pppoe) or users connecting with another interface than eth0
A fix will be available in drakxtools updates. Once you've installed the updates, you have to reconfigure your firewall with the firewall tool from the Mandriva Linux Control Center (drakfirewall).
Lemme try this and find out if it works.

Sorry! for my Language.
Well as you told after configuration of LAN conn i goes to browser and enter the address with IP address and eth0 (Modem is connected to ethernet port). When i inserted the ip address like this
http://192.168.1.1/ an Log in window opened and ask me for username and password but which username and password i typed in all username as well as root password but error Bad username and password" has shown me. And with http://192.168.1.1/eth0 an occurred 404 not found The requested URL '/eth0' was not found on this server.
2. Will i need to start my adsl connection with this? Although its already started.
The username and password which you were asked is not the system u-name and password. It is also not the ISP u-name and password. It is the u-name and password for the web based config. of the modem. Check them in the modem documentation/CD that you received. They are mostly 'admin' and 'admin' by default.
