Internet connection problem

Hi all,

I have Mandrake Linux 10.1 Kernel version 2.6.8.1 and a US Robotics 995668B message (serial dial up) modem. The modem's fine, it's working well with Win XP but I'm having trouble connecting from Linux. The modem does not show in the hardware list detected by the system but still I can get it to work from kppp.
What happens is the modem dials up and when it gets through and tries to log on to the network (ISP) it hangs up and the kppp dial up exits with an error. (I've included the log for the process if it's any help). You need to know that the ISP does not require a username/password I guess that's part of the problem baecause I cannot seem to be able to configure kppp to skip authentication to log in to the network.

In the error log you'll notice the username 'anonymous', don't mind it it was only an attempt to put something there and see what happens. I get the same log if I do not include any id/pw.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi

I have a howto by W. G. Unruh that in detail explains how to fix an authorisation problem (which it seems from your log posting is what your problem is) when connecting via dialup. Drop me a mail at spamnot@<removethis>polard.com and I'll mail it to you. Its a bit too long to post here directly.

Regards,
