Internet Conecction begins to slow down and thewn stop

Hi, i´ve got a mandrake 9.2 box on a pentium 3 with 512 mb ram, the problem is quite strange, when i turn on the server internet conecction (adsl 512) i share internet to a small intranet with it.

Problem is that during a couple of hours connection is ok but then it begins to slow down, i mean when i open explorer on some of the terminals it shows "coneccting to google.com but then it gives me a page cannot be found.

Then if i restart internet service , adsl service and the firewall it functions well again and the cycle repeats again.

Someone knows whats going on???

Thanks.
Emilio

I suggest installing tcpdump if it's not installed already. Based upon what you said, I suspect a worm is gobbling your bandwidth up. (Turn it off, it stops, this was common with Nachi).

At any rate, using tcpdump to see what your traffic looks like will help, if you see lots of outgoing traffic that can be indicative of a problem, expecially if no one is using the network but you.

tcpdump -n -i [interface]

or

tcpdump -n -i [interface] host [ip address]

If you are using tcpdump through ssh, I recommend this;

tcpdump -n -i [interface] not port 22
