Unhappy Internet

I'm trying to figure out how to connect to the internet. I'm using a Netgear router connected to a DSL modem. I've tried several settings that work in Windows but do not work on my Mandrake10. I'm trying to use Windows less and less because it messes up too much.

Specs:
AMD AthlonXP 2400+
Biostar M7VIG Pro motherboard
Seagate 20GB HD at 5400RPM (Windows is on another drive).
VIA Ethernet (onboard)

Hmmm....

Does this netgear router have DHCP? Is it one of the devices with a builtin 4, 5, or 8 port switch? If so try "dhclient eth0" or "dhcpcd eth0". You basically need to grab an IP address, default gateway, and nameservers.

It has 4 ports. As for the DHCP part, I have no idea.

Odds are it has dhcp. Most likely this router has an HTTP configuration page. I'd try to find your documentation on the router(or try to find it online somehow) and see if it does. It'll have really easy interfaces to configuring your connection and DHCP for your local network(DHCP is how interfaces can automatically get ip addresses from another server).

Don't give up so easily, if your router is set to dhcp you now have to make linux try and grab an ip address. Try either:

dhclient eth0

or

dhcpcd eth0

You might also try running the mandrake setup for your network connection(I can't recall where it is) which will in turn set up the dhcp calls for your card.

Well...i've tried just about every option from Internet connection sharing, DHCP, manual TCP/IP, PPPoE and not a single one worked...
