Intermittent "No network connection"

Over the past two months I've migrated two NetWare servers 6.5 SP7 to SLES10 SP3 and OES2 SP2. I've had some consulting assistance and been learning linux as I go. Now I have a b!tch of a problem with a Dell PE SC 1430 with integrated Broadcom BCM 5751 GB Ethernet working ok, but then after a reboot it will come up with no networking. I've used Network Manager to configure a static IP but it willsometimes come up and ifconfig will show no ip assigned. I can manually assigned ip, netmask, gw and can ping the gw, but can't ping any host on the subnet. I disabled the integrated NIC and installed another, but same problem. Could someone direct me to a more in-depth troubleshooting guide for this? I've spent prolly 3 hours and maybe it's staring me in the face, but I'm reaching out for some help, thank you.

Q: The problem is actually "Networking intermittantly fails to start after reboot", correct?
Once it's started, it stays up. Correct?

Q: Which OS are you having the problem with? SLES10 (SusE Linux Enterprise), OES2 (Open Enterprise Server/SusE Linux Enterprise), or both?

Q: Have you checked the startup logs?
Looked in /var/log/messages, or "dmesg"?
Did you find any related errors?

Q: It sounds like your company paid for this software.
Have you contacted technical support yet?

Intermittent "No network connection"

yes, fails to start after reboot. I ran a sudo dhclient -r and sudho dhclient and which worked, then reconfigured to static using YaST, and after reboot, No network connection again. So appears it is setting static IP that is problem.

Which OS, I think SLES, not OES, but dunno for sure.

I have good Novell support for SLES and OES2 issues, and have submitted a Service Reques for this also, just today.
