Intermittent Internet Access Since Router/ADSL Modem change
Hi Everyone.
I hope someone can help me coz! well I am puzzled to say the least. I have a network setup with my ADSL modem plugged in via ethernet, working as the DHCP server for all of my PC's. I recently had to buy a new ROUTER/ADSL modem/Firewall. Everything was working perfectly before this change. Since the change I am getting speradic internet access on my Linux machine which in theory should not have even noticed the difference. I have tried various distros but I prefer SUSE. Now using suse I get no access at all using Firefox but random results using Konqueror much of the time it lets be browse but on occation stops. As I say everything was ok before the change from my BT5861 ADSL modem/router to this NETGEAR. every thing is connected using cat 5 no wireless connections. NetGEAR support were as usefull as a chocolate fire gard. Any help or suggestions you can offer will be greatfully recieved. Many thanks Yogiman! |
This is obviously a configuration problem on your router.. I suspec thtat your DNS servers are being less than reliable.
Please give me the contents of your /etc/resolv.conf, and more information about your ISP |
Netgear
Which Netgear router are you using ?
I had a problem with my netgear DG814 which was timing out and resetting it's wan connection every 30-40 seconds regardless of any activity. I resolved this by setting the timeout parameter to zero (0). This may not be the cause of your problem, but it's worth eliminating. |
Thanks for this, actually it's a DG632. the timeout by default is (0) zero.
I found an interesting oddity, I also have a Belkin Wireless gateway router with 4 ports on the back, I have connected the linux box to this, and daisy chained it to the horrible NETGEAR and I can now browse the web. Is this odd or interesting! Regards Yogiman! |
