Intermediate queuing device (IMQ) help

Hi there,
I've had a look through your boards, but haven;t found a solution so I thought i'd post.
My problem is that I want to utilise the IMQ for incoming traffic, but I'm not sure how to do it. I know the syntax and know what I want to do, but its more installing it.
The IMQ site talks about patching iptables source and compiling a new kernel, which seems a bit harsh. I found a .deb of it, so i'm not sure whether that means you don't have to patch. I'm wanting to install a simple (class less) netem delay on arrival for all traffic and a kerndel rebuild is a lot of work for that.
I'm running lenny on a 2.6.26 kernel, with iptables 1.4.2.
any help would be very appreciated,
Many thanks,
Neil
