Question interface eth0 problem

Hi everybody,

During each boot it gives this error: Bringing up interface eth0 [Failed]. But after using drakconnect and setting lan settings(I just push next because I do not change anything) it says : Bringing up interface eth0 [ok], and I can connect to the network and the Internet. Each boot I am forced to execute drakconnect to bring up interface eth0.

What do I have to do to avoid this process?

Thanks

Birgi

*** I am using Mandrake 9.1 and a Compaq Armada 1750 and a Billionton Ethernet card.

is it enabled in your services to start on boot?

if it is trying uninstalling it and re-installing then reconfigure

Check that the module for your ethernet card is being loaded at boot time (add it to /etc/modules if it's not already there). AFAIK, the standard rtl8139 module should do the trick. (Run lsmod before and after bringing up eth0, and check which one has just appeared.

Cheers,

mjrich,

Two new modules come out after bringing up interface eth0 and they are 8139too and mii. I wrote both in /etc/modules, but again after rebooting they did not show up in lsmod.

Thanks

You're certain that they're spelt correctly, that there are no trailing spaces, and that you've added them, one per line, after the existing modules in /etc/modules ?

lukeleia3's suggestion of checking that the service is enabled on boot, is another option (you can probably use one of the Mandrake Control Center gui's).

Cheers,

mj
