I m new to linux. i have INTEL 56 k Modem & also Linux driver for it, But i don't know how to install it.

My Modem Info:
Intel Ham data/fax/voice 563x family

the modem works good in winXP.
i have modem driver as a .TGZ file, i can't open that file by double clicking on it. Do i need any speacial program to open it ?

YOur going to have to open up a terminal and execute the command
tar -zxvf /path/to/file. to unpack the file.

i Unpacked the file & read the notes on "How to Install"

I used the commands MAKE CLEAN - MAKE ALL & MAKE INSTALL as said in installation guide but the third command (make install) show me this :

[root@localhost Intel-v92ham-425]# make install
bash haminst
running kernel 2.4.19-16mdk
installing hamregistry, used for persistant storage
installing ham module
install: cannot stat `ham.o': No such file or directory
installing hamcore module
install: cannot stat `hamcore.o': No such file or directory
mandrake hamboot script
starting module and utilities
insmod: hamcore: no module by that name found
[root@localhost Intel-v92ham-425]#

My Modem is INTEL HAM Data/Fax/Voice (563x family)

i have driver for that modem - i downloaded from INTEL's site but i m not sure that it is the driver for my modem -- please send me direct link to that modem driver so i can check whether i have same driver or wrong.
Thank u jstu

Redhat is usually pretty good about detecting hardware maybe the modem isnt even supported and if it is you will know as well as me where to find the correct driver for that modem. I have no experience with it. Sorry
