Installing firmware update to old BEFSR41 Linksys Router
I just want to verify the procedure for updating BEFSR41(v4.3)router. The internal firmware update button insists on a .bin file. Linksys offers an ISO file. Do I burn this to a cd/DVD, boot it on an offline Linux box with the router attached?
8040-2214020_BEFSR41_V4.3.0.001_US001,0.iso
Yes I tried to get on both L-sis and T's hdware forums but the paranoia is so thick I simply refused to strip out all my browser security to comply. I searched this forum but the pertinent subject line found has a broken solution link. Linksys may have changed policy since then anyway. Thanks in advance for any tips.

The download support page indicates no firmware/driver available. The ISO file you downloaded is the windows setup CD.
Have not found much on version history and so I would be reluctant to just try firmware downloaded from another site.

I get the feeling that the iso is a bootable media already.
If not then...
Boot to a live media is easy.
Review the errata for the update and see if it includes what you may need or desire.

Thanks for the info, appreciate the help. I guess we can assume that Linksys has ceased updating firmware for BEFSR41. Their chat line seems to be constantly off-duty and I don't really qualify for their support services. I used this decrepit unit until a few months ago with reliable service at a minimal bit rate of around 3.5MBps. I bumped my broadband to 20MBps and I also upgraded my router as well to an Asus RTn16. I've been playing with DDWRT and bought an old WRT54G v1.3 as a lab rat to experiment with the re-flashing process and it worked beautifully. So I now have a spare tire for both future "emergencies", or as a loaner or to fill-in during the hour or two while I re-flash my Asus RTn16 to DDWRT.

I can confirm v1.04.09 firmware update for the befsr41v1 was in fact a bin file, I still seem to have an old directory listing that shows files I downloaded back in 2006. IIRC you had to get firmware for the particular hardware version shown on the tag on the unit, v1 was early in the line.
