Cool Install the FA311/dp83815 driver in RD7.2--need help

Hi,

I need help to install a FA311 (which uses natsemi dp83815 chip) driver in the redhat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.17).

I have a FA311 card working on the redhat7.2 because the redhat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.17) has driver for it in the kernel.

However my project requires that I install the driver by myself. I downloaded source code both from www.scyld.com and NetGear support site. I have compiled them successfully. However, I did meet problem to install the driver.

When I installed the pci-scan.o and natsemi.o using 'insmod' I got a set of message and could not install the driver. And the messages are:

pci-scan.o: unresolved symbol pci_write_config_byte
pci-scan.o: unresolved symbol kmalloc
...

natsemi.o: unresolved symbol eth_types_trans
natsemi.o: unresolved symbol __kfree_skb
...

Also when I use 'modprobe' I got:
Can't locate module: pci-scan.o
Can't locate module: natsemi.o

What did I do wrong with it? Thanks.

It would be better to install the kernel source rpm and then:

cd /usr/src/linux

make menuconfig
goto Networking device support > Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit)
choose the <M> National Semiconductor
make sure it is module
exit out
save you config
and type> make dep modules modules_install
All on one line.
cd /lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel
depmod -a

Once that is done issue the command:
insmod natsemi

This should take care of your problem.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the help from Mr. B Franklin and LinuxGod.

After I install the correct source files I got the driver working
properly.

Thanks again for help.
